Books for the Birthday Girl!

Today is not my birthday, but I sure did treat it like it was. I still have about two weeks before I hit the big 24, but I wanted to plan ahead and make sure I ordered myself a nice present to open on my very special day. You see, my birthday is a big deal...really only to me, but who cares! It's not for anybody else. With everything that's been going on with the pandemic and everything, I have been limiting my spending and going out as I should be. This has not been to difficult since I have a multitude of work to do and plenty of hobbies to keep me busy inside, but there is one thing I have absolutely been missing during all of this and that's book browsing. I know you can buy books to read online, but I know just as well as you do that 99% of people prefer a nice hardcopy of a good book.

"But, Naomi, whatever will you do? It would be reckless and selfish to go out into the world just to scratch that book-shopping itch." I hear you, so I did what anyone would do: online shopping. Obviously! I'm sure you saw that coming.

I spent about $40 on six books I found on a bargain book site. I like to thrift as much as I can not only to save money, but to try to have at least somewhat of a positive impact on the environment. That, and I love preowned books. Imagining how the previous owners thought of the book, where they read it, how they read it, and if it was as loved as I'm sure to love it is thrilling.

I'm going to make a whole video about my birthday book unboxing, so I won't spoil anything here, but I don't want to leave you with nothing. I updated my Goodreads bio and thought it would be cool to share it here as it explains what I'm into (which is a lot). Follow me there if you want to talk books with me! I'd love any recommendations you may have.

Anyway, here you go:

"Children's book author/illustrator and amateur monster hunter. Obsessed with memoirs from China, Economics of Japan leading to the boom of the 1980s, and historical accounts of major influences throughout the ages. Oh, and I love kid's books, obviously. I'm a sucker for anything dramatic, flamboyant, and ooey-gooey heartthrob theater. I'd say I love all the things we pretend to hate (or pretend to pretend to hate, or whatever). A not-so-guilty pleasure is and always will be cartoons. Animation of all kinds are welcome on my television. My favorites include butt humor centric Sanjay and Craig, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, and, of course, Harmon's Quest (just to name a few)."

That's all for now! Be safe and have a great night!

Love,

Naomi

Whoa! Hi, there! Strange to see me on a Wednesday, right? I couldn't wait, though. I needed to take a short break from getting my shop...
